Third Day: Akihabara

Compared to the second day this day wasn’t nearly as packed full of stuff as I spent pretty much the whole day at Akihabara, the electric city and center of otaku culture. It was kind of surreal to see so many places featuring anime, manga, and video games as it’s not something you really see in America, especially not in South Carolina. There are also a good number of arcades that feature a multitude of prize, rhythm, fighting games as well as some kind of trading card arcade games that at the moment I have no idea how they work.

I spent little time checking out some of the arcades and playing a few games but I spent most of my time just walking into random shops and browsing what they had to offer. For someone like me who is really into this kind of stuff this place is dangerous as almost every shop has something that I have to stop myself from buying. Even then I ended up caving and buying a few things here and there. To most people it probably didn’t seem like a very interesting day but I had a really good time just walking around and seeing all the merchandise.

Today is the day that I leave Toyko. I’ve had a really good time and there is still a lot that I would like to see and do but I only have so much time. I’m heading to Kawaguchiko to stay at a ryokan. Hopefully the weather stays clear enough for me to get at least one good look at Mt. Fuji, as that is the main reason I’m going, but the typhoon on the way seems like it might make that difficult but we’ll see. Before that I’ve got to navigate Tokyo Station and take a 2 hour bus ride to get there, but after that it should be a nice relaxing day even if Fuji-san doesn’t show himself.
